JE Dunn constructed the 46,000-square-foot, 3-story facility for The University of Kansas School of Engineering. This facility includes research space for energy/transportation, global change, composite materials/technology, and sustainable building practices all housed in a modern laboratory structure. The purpose of the new building is to promote interdisciplinary research on specific research opportunities in one location.
The M2SEC building itself is being used in a research effort to determine its own carbon footprint, energy savings, and sustainable practices that will serve as a test bed for new sustainable materials, energy-saving modeling and monitoring the facility operations.
